Remote Setup Specifically For H.264DVR:

1. Click Menu and select Setup, Main Menu
2. Select Network Setup
3. Log in to router and setup up an ip address
4. Copy the ip address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS
5. Click http setup
6. Check Enable HTTP Server
7. Enter the port number selected on router
8. Select DDNS Setup to setup the dvr software
9. Can also set up email to send notifications
10. Open browser and enter the local or external ip address of your machine and add the port number
11. Enter Username and Password - Default User: admin, Default Password: 1111
12. Download the software

Remote Setup of dvr:

1. Connect dvr to router with a cat5 cable
2. On computer, click Start and then Run
3. Type: 'cmd'
4. Type: 'ipconfig'
5. Notice - in xp - your machine's...

● ipv4 address, eg. 192.168.1.127
● subnet mask, eg. 255.255.255.0
● default gateway, eg. 192.168.1.1 (router address)

6. Ping a different ip address than your ipv4 to see if it's being used, eg. 192.168.1.122
7. On dvr, go to menu and find network tab
8. Enter 8080 (rather than the default 80 in most systems) in the http port field
9. Enter 2000 (or something different) in the server port
10. Uncheck dhcp b/c we don't want to automatically create the ip address
11. Enter an unused ip address as determined by ping test above
12. Enter your machine's subnet mask, and also the default gateway of the router
13. Open a browser
14. Type ip address of default gateway - router and log in

15. Click 'Add Service'
16. Create a new custom service called dvr
17. Specify port range: 8080, 8080
18. Select TCP protocol and add
19. Do the above again in UDP protocol
20. Add another port range: 2000, 2000 for the data port selecting TCP
21. Repeat the same in UDP
22. Create the "rule" - also called "port forward", or "application and gaming" - by clicking the Rule tab
23. Under Rules, click Add a new rule
24. Select Allow for Action
25. Select the just created service type - dvr - above
26. Select any Source
27. Select the Destination, LAN
28. Enter the ip address of the dvr
29. Apply rule always
30. Go to canyouseeme.org
31. Type 8080 in the Port box
32. Type 2000
33. From any computer, open a browser, type the external ip address of the machine that's connected to the dvr and add :8080
34. The active x controls popup will appear
35. Click Run addon
36. The dvr software should appear
37. Login

But that only partly explains how a site makes it on the first page as this shot shows. Some of these sites don'[t even have the right term in their domain name, page title or description. More then likely they're getting the result they are because of a combination of age, authority back links (links from other trusted websites) and other things.

I got an email from Eben Pagan with the headline: "TECH HELP: 1-on-1 help from Eben’s web guy". He's offering to help a limited number of "newbies" set up an "entire business online". The interesting thing to me though is the market information he revealed.
